Put simply, Slip Aweigh Charters is your lifeline to the yachts, the agent and to you. We have been sailing these waters as crew and Charteryacht owners for more than ten years. Our specialty is the Virgin Islands and this area continues to get our full attention.
-We are a Professional Charteryacht broker and we do our homework...We maintain contact with the yachts and crews by attending and participating in the Charter Yacht shows in the areas that we book. The shows span 3-4 days of going aboard up to 60 yachts, at least twice each year...socializing and interviewing the crews, inspecting the décor, the toys, taking photos of amenities offered to you as the charter guest as well as meeting new yachts and crews for the first time. It’s a time for fun and building our tool kit of appropriate yachts and crews to meet your needs.
Look at it this way: the average charter term is 7 nights and 8 days. If you are placed on a yacht which simply is not what you wanted, or a crew who’s personality doesn’t suit you for one reason or another, that 7 days might seem like 7 months! instead of 7 minutes on a yacht perfect for you.
-We maintain contact with the yachts and professional organizations to keep abreast of the very latest information on crew/yacht conditions and new yachts entering the arena.
-We stay on top of local and Federal Government to keep informed about changes in our industry, as well as involving ourselves with change in the environments in which we offer charters. In February, 2008, there was a threat to a decades long popular cruising stop in the US Virgin Islands, namely, Christmas Cove on Great St. James Island off the East End of St. Thomas. The Charter Yacht organization, individually and collectively in concert with local property owners successfully thwarted the attempt by a few opportunists to turn this peaceful cove into a major floating bar and restaurant. It’s peace and tranquility is preserved for future sundown stops by cruisers and Charteryachts.
-We support local organizations engaged in keeping the reefs healthy. We engage in open dialogue with local publications to help keep the government and the public aware of this important industry in our islands.
-Local brokers have the opportunity of hearing "rumors" or scuttlebutt, and we check it out.
-We take an active interest in the cruising area in which we specialize i.e. the Virgin Islands
-We develop a rapport with preferred vendors of services such as local taxi drivers, Ferry companies, good places to stay on land and much more.
-We are members of professional organizations such as VICL (Virgin Island Charteryacht League) and CYBA. the body which oversees the Charter Yacht Broker Members and establishes guidelines to which Slip Aweigh strictly adheres. These organizations are dedicated to maintaining integrity and professionalism in our field.
It's more than a job, it's a labor of love!
